"100" represents the chain number, corresponding to a 31.75 mm (1-1/4") pitch.

"B" and "A" define the sprocket's construction type.

100A refers to a hubless (single-plate) sprocket.

100B refers to a hubbed sprocket with raised hubs on both sides for added strength.

Simply put, JIS 100B/100A sprockets are designed for use with JIS No. 100 chains with a 1.25" pitch. 100A is the simplified type, while 100B is the enhanced type.

1. Pitch: 31.75 mm (1-1/4 inches). This is a common pitch used in extremely heavy-duty transmissions.

2. Construction (Core Difference):

JIS 100A (Hubless Type):

Construction: Single-piece, without raised side support sections.

Features and Applicability: The most compact and lightest. However, because JIS 100 chains are designed to transmit enormous power and withstand shock loads, the hubless 100A sprocket has very limited applications. It is only suitable for special lightweight designs requiring extremely large shaft diameters, absolutely reliable support, and extremely stable loads. It is not recommended in most situations.

JIS 100B (Hub Type):

Construction: Features large, heavy, one side with hub.

Features and Applicability: This is the absolute mainstream and standard choice. The large hubs provide the necessary rigidity and bending strength to effectively withstand heavy loads and severe shock, while protecting the drive shaft from excessive bending stress. For JIS 100, the 100B type must be selected for almost all heavy-load and impact conditions.

3. Standard System: Strictly adhere to JIS B 1801 (chain standard) and JIS B 1802 (sprocket standard). Important Note: While the pitch is the same as that of the imperial standard 20B and JIS 50 chains, the dimensional system differs (key dimensions such as roller diameter and inner link width differ). Therefore, JIS 100 sprockets are not directly interchangeable with ANSI 20B and JIS 50 sprockets and must be used with JIS 100 chains.

JIS 100B sprockets are designed for the most demanding heavy-duty industrial applications and are commonly found in:

1. Heavy mining machinery: large crushers, feeders, and conveyors.

2. Port and bulk material handling equipment: core drive systems for large ship unloaders and stackers/reclaimers.

3. Heavy-duty construction machinery: Travel or hoist mechanisms for large hydraulic excavators and large crawler cranes.
