Steel Pipe: A type of steel with a hollow cross-section, whose length is significantly greater than its diameter or circumference. It is classified based on cross-sectional shape into circular, square, rectangular, and special-shaped steel pipes; based on material into carbon structural steel pipes, low-alloy structural steel pipes, alloy steel pipes, and composite steel pipes; based on application into pipes for conveying fluids, engineering structures, thermal equipment, petrochemical industries, machinery manufacturing, geological drilling, and high-pressure equipment; and based on production process into seamless steel pipes and welded steel pipes. Seamless steel pipes are further divided into hot-rolled and cold-rolled (or cold-drawn) types, while welded steel pipes are subdivided into longitudinally welded and spiral-welded steel pipes.
Steel pipes are not only used for transporting fluids and powdered solids, exchanging heat, and manufacturing mechanical parts and containers, but they also represent an economical form of steel.
