Conveyor chains with outboard rollers are a type of special conveyor chain where rollers are mounted on the outside of the link plates. Their design optimizes the contact with the conveying track by placing the rollers externally, making them suitable for conveying scenarios that require precise guidance, lateral support, or special layouts.
Outboard Rollers: The rollers are not located on the inner side of the link plates (the traditional position of rollers) but are mounted on the outside of the link plates (i.e., at both ends in the width direction of the chain) via extended shafts or special connectors. The axis of the rollers is perpendicular to the running direction of the chain. The diameter of the rollers can be designed according to requirements (ranging from as small as 10mm to more than 50mm). The materials are mostly high-strength steel, wear-resistant cast iron, or engineering plastics (such as nylon, polyurethane). Some models have built-in bearings in the rollers to reduce rotational resistance.
Basic chain body: It consists of inner link plates, outer link plates, pins, bushings, etc. The width of the link plates is usually slightly larger than that of standard chains to accommodate the installation space of the outboard rollers. The pins need to extend to the outside of the link plates to fix the rollers, so they have higher strength requirements (mostly made of alloy steels such as 40Cr and strengthened by heat treatment).
