Basic Structure: Motorcycle sprockets usually consist of gear teeth, a hub, and a web. The gear teeth mesh with the chain to transmit power; the hub is used for mounting on the shaft to connect other components; the web plays a role in supporting and connecting the gear teeth and the hub.

• Chain sprockets: The most common type, which transmit power through the meshing of chains and sprockets. They feature high transmission efficiency, low cost, and adaptability to various working conditions, making them widely used in all types of motorcycles.
• Gear sprockets: Transmit power through the meshing of gears. They offer precise transmission ratios and high efficiency but come with higher costs, typically used in high-performance motorcycles or specific racing fields.
• Belt sprockets: Utilise friction between the belt and sprockets to transmit power. They boast smooth transmission, low noise, and no need for lubrication. However, their transmission efficiency is relatively low, and the belt is prone to wear and requires regular replacement. They are commonly found in small motorcycles or urban commuter motorcycles.

Functions and Influences

• Power transmission: They are key components for transmitting engine power to the rear wheels, ensuring efficient and stable power transfer to enable the motorcycle to run normally.
• Speed change and torque adjustment: The tooth ratio between the driving sprocket (small sprocket) and the driven sprocket (large sprocket) determines the motorcycle's transmission ratio. By changing the number of teeth on the sprockets, the speed and torque of the motorcycle can be adjusted. A smaller driving sprocket paired with a larger driven sprocket can achieve speed reduction and torque increase, making the motorcycle more powerful during starting and climbing; conversely, a larger driving sprocket paired with a smaller driven sprocket can increase rotational speed, allowing the motorcycle to reach a higher speed.
• Impact on handling performance: Factors such as the size, weight, and moment of inertia of the sprocket affect the motorcycle's handling. A lighter sprocket can reduce the moment of inertia, making acceleration and deceleration more responsive and handling more flexible; a heavier sprocket, on the other hand, increases the moment of inertia, resulting in relatively stable handling but slightly slower acceleration and deceleration.
