 Nomex Needle Felt is a high-performance industrial filtering material. It is made from meta-aramid fibres (Nomex®) developed by DuPont through a needle-punching process. Its core advantages include high-temperature resistance, flame retardancy, high strength, and excellent filtration performance, and it is widely used in fields such as high-temperature flue gas treatment and industrial dust removal.

 I. Material Properties and Manufacturing Process

Core Materials

• Nomex® Fibres: A type of meta-aramid fibre. With a unique molecular structure, it endows the material with outstanding high-temperature resistance (continuous operating temperature of 204ºC, and the instantaneous temperature can reach 240 - 250ºC) and flame retardancy (limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 29 - 30; it slowly carbonises above 400ºC, without self-ignition and without aiding combustion).
• Needle - Punching Process: Disordered fibres are interwoven into a three-dimensional structure by a needle-punching machine to form a thick and porous felt. The surface can be further laminated with a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) microporous membrane or subjected to impregnation treatment to improve filtration precision and dust-cleaning performance.

Physical Properties

• High Strength and Stability: Fibres are tightly entangled, with high tensile strength (700N/5cm in the warp direction and 1000N/5cm in the weft direction). The thermal shrinkage rate is less than 1% at 240ºC, ensuring no deformation during long-term use.
• Air Permeability and Filtration Efficiency: It has high porosity (air permeability of 15 - 22m³//min) and can effectively capture dust particles of 0.1 - 10 micrometres. When combined with a PTFE membrane, the filtration efficiency can reach over 99.9%, which is especially suitable for the treatment of ultra-fine particles such as PM2.5.

Chemical Stability

• Corrosion Resistance: It can withstand low-concentration acids, alkalis, hydrocarbons, and small amounts of cyanides. However, its performance deteriorates in environments containing SO2, high humidity (above 70%), or high-temperature hydrolysis; so careful selection of application scenarios is required.
• Aging Resistance: It can maintain stable performance after long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation or chemical environments.

High-Temperature Flue Gas Filtration in Industry

• Steel, Cement, and Power Industries: Used for flue gas dust removal in cement kiln inlets/outlets, coal-fired boilers, and steel-making furnaces, effectively controlling dust emissions.
• Waste Incineration and Chemical Industry: Treat particulate pollutants in high-temperature waste gases from waste incinerators and chemical plants, reducing emissions of hazardous substances such as dioxins.

Special Environmental Protection

• Insulation Materials: Non-woven insulation needle felt is used for high - temperature - resistant insulating components in fields such as high-speed rail and aerospace, featuring both flexibility and electrical insulation.
