Leaf chains are a special transmission and lifting chain, composed of multiple metal plates connected by pins. With a simple structure and high strength, they are mainly used for heavy-duty lifting, traction in vertical or inclined directions, and short-distance material conveying. They are widely applied in fields such as forklifts, cranes, lifting platforms, and engineering machinery. Their design focuses on bearing axial tensile loads rather than the continuous transmission function of traditional chains, thus performing excellently in heavy-load scenarios.
Performance Characteristics
Ultra-high Load-bearing Capacity
- High-strength alloy structural steels (such as 40Cr, 65Mn) are mostly used as materials. After quenching and tempering, the tensile strength can reach 800-1200 MPa, and the rated working load of a single chain can range from several tons to hundreds of tons (depending on specifications).
- The plates' superimposed design improves their overall strength by dispersing stress, making them suitable for heavy-load scenarios such as lifting forklift masts and telescoping crane booms.
Fatigue Resistance and Wear Resistance
- The surface of the plates is polished or phosphated to reduce frictional wear with guide grooves (such as forklift mast rails); the surface of the pins is usually chrome-plated or nitrided to enhance rust resistance and anti-seizure ability.
- The optimised ratio of plate thickness to pin diameter enables adaptation to frequent starts/stops or impact loads, extending the service life.
Compact Structure and Light Weight
- Leaf chains have no redundant components compared to roller chains or lifting chains. With the same load-bearing capacity, they are smaller in size and lighter in weight, saving installation space. They are especially suitable for scenarios sensitive to the weight of equipment (such as forklifts and lifting platforms).
Easy Maintenance
- The simple structure allows for easy disassembly and inspection; daily maintenance mainly involves regularly lubricating the contact parts between pins and plates to prevent rust and jamming, resulting in low maintenance costs.
